A lot of them though, were a lot of really hard work. Some of those effects are admittedly "off the shelf" - effects you get in Motion but not in FCPX. This is some of the stuff I've been doing with Motion 5: but they are not exactly drop zones - they "represent" the FCPX storyline.)

The other three types are pre-setup with special Final Cut "Placeholders" (they look a lot like drop zones. Of these four project types designed for FCPX, only one is just like a "regular" (old-fashioned?) Motion project : Generators. Not something a user ever has to think about unless they want to "dig" the templates out to share them with others. Upon completion of these types of projects, the mere act of Saving them automatically places (installs) them in the appropriate path for FCPX to find them.

įour out of the five possible project types (the fifth being a "plain" Motion project that can be saved anywhere) available to a Motion designer are specifically geared towards end use in Final Cut Pro X. Motion 5 is the "design plugin" for FCPX. Motion 5 allows a designer to create not only a video/image edit for Final Cut, but an entire template with enough variation built in to make it easy for individuals (who know nothing of Motion) to customize the effect, sometimes beyond the recognition of the original designer's intent (depending of course on the latitude given by the original designer). The concept behind Motion 5 is create once, use everywhere (or. And working within the Motion interface was not something a lot of users could deal with easily.Įnter Motion 5. basically, a redesign every time workflow. Final Cut would save out a descriptor file for Motion to read and you worked your magic in Motion, and when you saved the project back out, your updated work and edits would appear in the Final Cut timeline. With past versions of Motion, you either did all the video work you needed it for in Motion itself, or you used it in conjunction with Final Cut Pro in a fashion known as "round-tripping". Another difference in Motion 5 from the former incarnations: Rigs and OnScreen Controls (OSCs) that can be published for FCPX. The difference is that LiveType is a thing of the past. Motion has almost all the same functionality as Motion 3 and Motion 4. It seems very geared toward people who use previous versions of Motion so they already know what it does and don't need to be told, but I sure do so I would appreciate some clarity so much. Sorry for asking such a basic question, but I don't think I've ever read a product description that has been so wordy but doesn't just come right out and say what it does. If users can tell me exactly what they have done using only Motion 5 so I have some idea what it does, I would greatly appreciate it. So can anyone explain in simple language what EXACTLY Motion 5 actually does? I wanted to buy it to do special effects on projects, but if it's only a program to faciliate already pre rendered special effects from one program into your edited project, then it's not really what I'm looking for. Going by the YouTube Videos I saw, it seems like I can do special effects such as explosions, text animations, chroma key and whatever else is preloaded in the program, however up reading magazine reviews of the program they make it seem like it's simply a program to add motion and chroma key to projects (so if you have an explosion made by one program, you use Motion to put it into your Final Cut project, but Motion in itself does not do special effects.)

Hi I'm really sorry to ask this but I can't seem to find a straight forward answer anywhere as to what exactly Motion 5 does.
